SHB30516 Certificate III in Barbering

This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed technical and communication skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. Barbers use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work. This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop where a student will continue to develop their skills whilst understanding and contributing to the day to day aspects of how a barber shop operates.

Course Fees

Option 1 – ‘Flexible’ Full Time Training

Administration Fee: $250

Tuition: $9,900

Student kit: $1400

Resources (online learning license): $550

Work placement: 1 day per week

Practical training days: Monday & Tuesday (9.30am – 4.30pm) on campus

External online theory: 15 hours

Duration: 44 weeks (excluding holidays)

This course has been developed for any new students to work and study concurrently. This will provide you with flexibility whilst training whilst maintaining full time contact hours with your online theory being undertaken away from the academy.  

Option 2 – Apprenctice Training

Administration Fee: $250 

Practical Training Days: 1 Day per week (Monday or Tuesday) (approx for 18 months)

Tuition Fee: $ 2,356.00

Resources: $550

Student Kit: $1400

Only applicable if you are employed as an apprentice under an approved employment contract and contract of training.

Option 3 – Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning is the process where you can have your current skill, as well as any prior learning recognised formally to lead to the issuing of a qualification.

The process can include questioning, documentation, skill assessment and third party review. Where necessary, or as identified, gap training may be required to fulfil the remaining requirements of the qualification.

You can use a variety of documentation to apply for RPL. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • records of completed training

  • assessment items

  • assessment records

  • declarations from your employer, and/or

  • a copy of your student records provided by ASQA.

  • photos and videos as well as your social media portfolio (as long as you can demonstrate that the work is yours).

Assessment Fee: $1250

Certificate issuance: $500

To apply for RPL, you will need to have at least 3 years experience working in the barbering industry.

Boutique salon environment

Students learn on the job in our boutique salon floor environment on real paying clients. The Barbershop operates Monday to Friday for student training and client services.

Up to date techniques.

Learners are given the fundamentals in barbering, then this is expanded on when they hit the salon floor to produce fashion forward cutting and styling results.

Hands-on activities

Learning happens through hands on work in the theory classroom then on the salon floor. Students are taught the fundamentals then how to aplly their new skills on clients.

Wide range of services.

Students will learn all barbering services, from cutting, through to styling, Royal razor face shaves and beard work..
